Ronald de Sousa is Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at the University of Toronto, where he has taught since 1966. He was educated in Switzerland, Britain, France, and the USA. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. He is the author of The Rationality of Emotion (1987) Why Think? Evolution and the Rational Mind (2007), and Emotional Truth (2011). He has lectured in some twenty countries and has published over 100 articles and book chapters. His work has been translated into seven languages. His current research interests focus on emotions, cognitive science, sex, and the puzzle of religious belief—all in the light of a unifying concern with the bearing of biology, and especially the fact of evolution by natural selection, on our conception of human nature.
